Speed Limit 160
|
|
[Salzburg / 21. März 2008]
2 years ago the discussion about an increase of the speed limit on austrias motorways has been started by Mr. Hubert Gorbach from the federal ministry of traffic, innovation and technology. Beginning of May the testing phase is getting in its second year.
It was a waste of time and effort!
There is just little echo since the expensive buildings on the test site in the near of Salzburg, the survey on websites and the investment for marketing.
On different webpages you can read a putative rejection.
Other webpages are presenting surveys with overwhelming majority for the new speed limit of 160 km/h or other more flexible solutions. Mr. Hubert Gorbach is reporting on his webpage to the project: “With the flexibilization of the speed limit we are not just corresponding with the advantages in electronics, the traffic telemetry, the car technology, the education of drivers and the building of streets but also we are achieving a better acceptance at speed limit restrictions because they are now more understandable when adjusting them to traffic- or weatherconditions then in the past and therefore accepted and adhered to.”
The opinions to this project are divided.
Unfortunately this subject has not been discussed further.
Lookover will remember on this way again on the topic.
Sehr gut gesagt.

Eng Matteo Lodola » matteolodola@gmail.com Dear Sirs,
I am a final-year student at the Politecnico di Milano and I am writing my degree thesis
about intelligent transport systems.
in particular I am studying:
- Dynamic speed control and Variable speed limits;
- Dynamic lane control and hard shoulder running;
- Rush hour lanes;
- Ramp metering;
- Road charging.
I would like to know if you have some ex-post studies or
numerical research about these kind of applications.
My purpose is to create a numerical comparison between
the effects obtained using ITS applications.
Best regards,
Matteo Lodola
